- About Insulation Inspection
What Is an Insulation Inspection?
At its simplest, an insulation inspection is a check on how well a property holds its heat. In practice, it’s a little more involved than that.
We look at the parts of the building where heat tends to escape and where insulation is supposed to stop that happening. During a home insulation inspection, we typically focus on:
- Loft spaces, where most heat loss tends to occur
- Walls and cavities that may have gaps or uneven coverage
- Floors and lower levels that can let cold in
- Smaller details like gaps around openings and service entries
What we’re trying to establish is simple. Is the insulation doing its job, or is it underperforming?

Who Should Get an Insulation Inspection?
There’s no strict rule here. It usually comes down to how the property feels and performs day to day. It’s worth considering an insulation survey if you’ve noticed:
- Certain rooms stay colder than others
- Heat escapes quickly once the heating goes off
- Energy bills are rising without a clear reason
Some properties are more likely to need a check than others. Common situations where inspections make sense:
- Older homes where the insulation hasn’t been reviewed in years
- Newer builds, where installation quality can be inconsistent
- Rental properties between tenants
- Homes being bought or sold
- Why Choose Us
Why Choose Fitzgerald Surveying for Your Insulation Inspection?
We don’t treat an inspection as a box-ticking exercise. The aim is to give you something genuinely useful, not just confirmation that we’ve been.
If something looks fine, we’ll say so. If it doesn’t, we’ll explain it plainly without dressing it up.
If you need to ask something after the inspection, you can. No long delays or chasing.
Every insulation inspection is carried out by qualified, independent surveyors who are members of RICS, RPSA and CIOB. Nothing is outsourced or rushed.
You’ll receive a clear, structured insulation report you can follow without having to interpret it.

Jake did a fantastic job with our Level 3 Home Survey. He was professional, knowledgeable, and incredibly helpful throughout the entire process. While we were on holiday, he took the lead in organising both a drain survey and a structural survey, which made everything much less stressful. Jake also took the time to thoroughly review all the documents and promptly responded with clear, detailed feedback whenever needed. His communication and attention to detail were excellent, and it was clear that he genuinely cared about helping us make an informed decision. It was a pleasure working with Jake and the team. I would 100% recommend their services to anyone looking for a reliable and professional surveyor. Thank you, Jake! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Posted on Google![]()

- FAQ
Insulation Inspection Questions, Answered
Insulation problems aren’t always obvious, and the signs people notice day to day don’t always point to the cause. The answers below cover the questions we’re asked most often before an insulation inspection is arranged.
We work through the main areas where heat is usually lost. Loft space first, then walls, floors and the usual weak points around doors and windows. It’s not a box-ticking exercise; it’s about seeing how the property actually behaves with heat.
There’s no fixed time. Some properties are fairly quick to work through, while others take longer depending on size and layout. Either way, it’s normally completed in a single visit.
Yes. We send over a detailed report afterwards explaining what was found. It’s written in plain English, so you can read it and act on it without needing any technical knowledge.
Often, yes. If the issue is insulation-related, putting it right helps the property hold heat better, which usually means less energy is needed to keep it warm. It does depend on what we find on the day.
The fee depends on the size of the property and the scope of the inspection, so no two quotes are quite the same. We confirm the cost upfront before anything is booked, so there are no surprises later. Contact Fitzgerald Surveying for a quotation tailored to your property.
